Shoogly Beads is a husband and wife design team based beside the sea in Stonehaven on the lovely Northeast coast of Scotland. Mike is responsible for the gorgeous polymer clay beads and Pat is responsible for the jewellery design. The 'Shoogly' part of our name comes from a good Scots word meaning shaky, wobbly, swinging......just what beads and charms should do when you hang them off things.......a charm bracelet should be very shoogly as should dangly earrings! We also make and sell exclusive beads, pendants, charms, buttons and other bits and pieces in polymer clay. These can be used for your own creations! Pat has also re-discovered her love of painting and other crafts and some of these have been added to our shops. Currently we are selling our contemporary jewellery, polymer clay, art work and knitting via Folksy and Etsy

Winter Solstice and Lunar Eclipse

Lunar Eclipse 07:16 21st December
We had a very clear cold night last night so ideal conditions for viewing the Lunar Eclipse on the Winter Solstice. Mike took some photographs but the one here is about the best.....probably about half way through the eclipse. The moon looked more orange in real life you could also just make out the left hand side too. Glad we could see this from inside the house 'cause it was absolutely freezing out doors!! As the sky lightened and the moon faded we were treated to a beautiful Winter Solstice sunrise. Quite an experience! A lovely day followed with beautiful crisp white snow and sunshine. Now 2:50 in the afternoon and we're already losing the sun on the shortest day. We have lengthening days and Spring flowers to look forward to....after we get Christmas over with!!!
So far the approaching holiday season has been a bit of a disaster for lots of people with travel plans disrupted or ruined altogether.
My sister had planned to spend Christmas in Dubai with our brother and his family. Fraser was to travel from his work in Vietnam and meet his family who were travelling from Aberdeen. Disruptions at Heathrow meant the Aberdeen contingent couldn't get into Heathrow resulting in cancelled holidays.
It seems afterall they will manage to spend Christmas together although not in the hot sun of Dubai. Fraser has managed to get a flight to Manchester and hopefully can fly from there to Aberdeen!! Hope he can find some warm clothes if there are any delays.......!
I hope other people affected by the weather also find a happy if not perfect solution and all have a good Christmas.

  1. Great photograph! I hope your family managed to see each other. Our family is luckily close together so no one had to deal with the airport delays we have been experiencing. I enjoyed shoveling a foot of snow this morning (not really)! ~Val
